Verdi: La Traviata - Cotrubas, Carreras, Braun; Pritchard. London, 1974
Listen to a Sample:
I must admit I was not immediately won over by Ileana Cotrubas' voice when I first heard it many years ago. Upon hearing her again it is clear to me that there are few singers that brought her level of understanding and depth particularly to the part of Violetta. She is joined by a young José Carreras who sings like a god. The only disappointment is the Germont of Victor Braun. His tone is attractive enough but sagging pitch mars a lot of the performance. The sound is good.
