That diversity of perspective yields a compelling reading that is both steeped in tradition and illuminated by fresh insight into Verdi’s masterpiece.

Raina Kabaivanska’s slender soprano brings style and delicacy, even if the dramatic moments lose some of their force. Fortunately, Giuseppe Giacomini provides the necessary dramatic impact, unleashing thrilling high notes reminiscent of Maria Del Monaco. Kurt Moll’s elegant bass proves well suited to Guardiano, while Gabriel Bacquier draws on his innate vocal glamour and comic timing as Melitone. Fiorenza Cossotto’s brief but striking appearances as Preziosilla leave a memorable impression.
