I Masnadieri may not reach the heights of Rigoletto or Otello, but like many of Verdi’s early works, its success largely depends on the singers in the principal roles. In this respect, this performance is highly enjoyable, thanks in no small part to Cristina Deutekom as Amalia. While her voice can sound a bit unusual at times, few sopranos could match her combination of flawless coloratura and the "slancio" she brings to the role.

Vasile Moldoveanu delivers a performance that highlights the world-class quality of his voice. Hearing him here, one can’t help but wonder about the career he might have had if his voice had endured. The sound is good.
