You have to hear the amazing voices of Gencer and Aragall to believe it!! WHY these two were not world famous in the same class as Caballe, Callas, Pavarotti or Domingo is beyond me. They had it all. I particularly like cd 2 but it’s all gold.

アラガルがフェ二－チェでデビューした時のライブ録音と記憶しているのですが、持ち前の美声と役をこなしているのがいいですね。現在80歳を超え、誕生日に「星は光りぬ」を披露していましたが、若い頃から無理せずご自分の声を大切に選曲してきたから、長く歌い続けて来られたのだと思います。

Great recording, This is an excellent performance all the cast are superb, A wonderful performance from repertoire of Italian opera. It is now not easy to find. Tanks to Opera Depot.

A couple of years ago I listened to all Verdi operas in chronological order, some of the early ones for the first time. Every one of them has redeeming value but of those new to me, I Lombardi and its French reworking as Jerusalem stood out for the wonderful arias, ensembles and choruses, and I have returned to it many times since. Verdi's revised French version, Jerusalem is sung here in Italian translation as Gerusalemme. The revision includes a number of improvements including a more streamlined and less confusing plot and a new overture. This recording captures an excellent vocal performance in good sound. Highly recommended for repeat listening.

I only knew this opera by name and reputation. I was blown away by its score and its relative sophistication for early Verdi. It is a real treasure for Verdi lovers.Gencer is terrific and Aragall makes a tremendous match. Why were both so little known in North America ?? The rest of the cast is competent, although Guelfi does rise to the occasion, especially in the early acts.Gavezzeni manages the impossible -- imposing some semblance of order and discipline on the orchestra of La Fence. As a bonus, the sound is superb.GRAB THIS!
