Domingo montre ici une liberté d'aigu qu'il n'eut vraiment que jusqu'à la fin des années 70, sinon l'engagement est toujours formidable. Kabaivanska toujours intelligente et superbe n'est pas tout à fait dans son Verdi idéal mais apporte une jeunesse agréable. Mittelmann sonne mieux que souvent mais n'a pas tout à fait la classe des plus grands. Talvela est un prophète biblique somptueux. Troyanos donne comme attendu beaucoup de peps sans vulgarité. Choeurs en allemand et l'avant dernier tableau prend à l'entrée de Carlo. Gregor rassemble assez bien les disparités de la partition et arrive à faire passer un peu du souffle de l'Histoire.

Domingo's Alvaro is a known commodity and he is very good here. The recitative of his big aria is spoiled a bit by some file corruption (I tried two copies and the problem was in both), but the aria itself is mostly free of problems. Kabaivanska is a go-for-broke Leonora who sings passionately without convincing one she is a true Verdi soprano. Mittelmann shows why he never lacked for work although he had no recording career to speak of. Talvela sounds like God Himself as Guardiano. Troyanos is good, but disappoints by singing none of Preziosilla's optional high B's. She certainly had the note - what happened?Most of the score is here although the "Sleale!" scene is omitted. The sound is from either a house tape or an in-house; either way it's listenable though I think the pitch is a little sharp. The singers do sound like themselves so it's not really off, but I wish someone would fix these issues before releasing it to the public.Aside from the unfortunate file corruption at the beginning of disc 2, I'd recommend this to fans of the singers.
