Gwyneth Jones will always be linked to her Wagner roles and for good reason.  Both her temperament and her voice seemed tailor made for roles like Isolde and Brünnhilde.   Here she brings her skills to Aida and shows that, among other things, she really knew how to sing.   After singing a glorious high C in "O Patria mia" she manages an exquisitely executed piano A natural that she hold forever.   That kind of control is not often associated with Wagner singers.   Grace Bumbry was one of the few singers who could match her in intensity and she does not hold back.   Charles Craig may not have been the most charismatic singers but he too shows that he knew a thing or two about singing as well, tackling his music in act III with abandon.  The sound is excellent.
