Verdi: Aida - Caballé, Berini, Domingo, Mastromei, Howell, Pons; Masini. Barcelona, 1974
Listen to a Sample:
Montserrat Caballé and Placido Domingo always seemed to be able to inspire each other when they sang together. Here they are both in splendid form. Caballé sings a gorgeous "O patria mia" choosing to do the notorious ascent to the High C in one breath (listen to the sample below.) Placido hits all the marks in this performance even managing a beautiful voix mixe on the last high b flat in the tomb scene.
