The name Anna Moffo can create many conflicting associations. It was a career mired by misfires causes by both vocal and personal crises. If there can be anything good to come out of her death it is the re-examination of what made her a star and this recording is a wonderful testament to that artistry. It will be no surprise to any of her fans that her "Sempre libera" is an astonishing feat of vocal pyrotechnics but she combines it with amazing sensitivity and pathos in the ensuing acts. Very few people in the history of this role could do both. Gabriel Bacquier and Carlo Cossutta round out the cast as the Germonts. The sound is excellent.
