I could not believe it when I found out that this recording existed! The idea of joining Martha Mödl and Peter Pears with the composer at the podium seemed too good to be true. The three of them capture the bizarre color of this work superbly. It is particularly fascinating to hear Peter Pears as Oedipus. Pears was no stranger to collaboration with living composers and the florid quality of this role suits his voice perfectly. As a bonus I have included rarities by Martha Mödl.
