Pros:

  • George Shirley's lyrical yet imposing tenor proves a perfect fit for Oedipus.
  • Frances Bible brings glamor and menace to the role of Jocasta.

Cons:

  • The chorus has an oversized role in this opera and, unfortunately, in this performance they miss the mark (although to be fair it sounds to my ear that there were not enough voices to make the impact this music needs.)
