Elektra
Though not the most vocally distinctive in the role, Ingrid Steger gives a committed and increasingly compelling performance as Elektra. Her slender voice carries a slight edge, but she meets the role's formidable demands with determination and dramatic involvement throughout. Ludmila Dvořáková, as Chrysothemis, brings a touch of vocal luxury—her opulent soprano gleams in the high-lying phrases, offering a radiant counterpart to Steger's intensity. Martha Mödl, near the end of her career and often vocally unstable at that time, is in notably strong form here. Her Klytämnestra is delivered with surprising freshness and dramatic clarity—arguably more persuasive than in her celebrated 1964 Salzburg performance.

Another Sleeper Elektra in Excellent Sound!
This sounds like it may have been the soundtrack to a television production because of the closeness of the voices and some deliberate changes of acoustic (Klytemnestra's screams). There is also no audible signs of an audience either during the performance or afterwards. The cast is terrific. Steger can be heard on another Elektra set available from Opera Depot, but this one is in much better sound. Her voice isn't particularly distinguished, being rather dry in timbre, but she never wobbles and makes all the high notes (some by the skin of her teeth). More crucially, she digs into the text with incredible ferocity, almost speaking some of her lines, but never sacrificing her musicality. Dvorakova is a good Chrysothemis who is preferable in the title role (also available from Opera Depot). Mödl is a deliciously deranged Klytemnestra. Listen to the how she gnashes her way through "und schlachte, schlachte, schlachte" - unforgettable! Her offstage screams were probably done by someone else, but they are frightening. The rest of the cast is just as involved. The opening maid scene is particularly vivid. Some of the names will be familiar to those who know other recordings from Berlin in 1967. Suitner leads a fiery, exciting performance that never let's up. The sound is very clear, the voices closely miked. Elektra fans will love this!
