Strauss: Elektra - Borkh, Resnik, Kubiak, Moeller, Nurmela; Rieger. Venezia, 1971

$8.95

Description:

Inge Borkh, one of the defining Elektras of the 1950s, brings an extraordinary mix of vocal power and tonal beauty to the role, qualities rarely heard in this intense part. By 1970, however, the years of performing Strauss had taken their toll, especially in the upper range. While Borkh still navigates the high notes with skill, there’s a sense of relief as she moves away from them. Nevertheless, there’s a notable improvement in her connection to the text, something that was occasionally absent in her earlier performances, which often risked sounding monochromatic.

Teresa Kubiak, as Chrysothemis, offers a radiant contrast with her effortlessly soaring silvery soprano, cutting through Strauss's dense orchestration. Meanwhile, Regina Resnik dominates as Klytämnestra, her presence commanding and her voice powerful.
