By 1970, however, the years of performing Strauss had taken their toll, especially in the upper range. While Borkh still navigates the high notes with skill, there’s a sense of relief as she moves away from them. Nevertheless, there’s a notable improvement in her connection to the text, something that was occasionally absent in her earlier performances, which often risked sounding monochromatic.
Teresa Kubiak, as Chrysothemis, offers a radiant contrast with her effortlessly soaring silvery soprano, cutting through Strauss's dense orchestration. Meanwhile, Regina Resnik dominates as Klytämnestra, her presence commanding and her voice powerful.
