Strauss: Der Rosenkavalier (Excerpts In English) - Fisher, Shacklock, Leigh, Howell; Kempe. London, 1954

$4.95

Description:

This recording of excerpts from Der Rosenkavalier is worth having for the superb Marschallin of Sylvia Fisher. Fisher was a beloved artist at Covent Garden, earning particular acclaim for her portrayals of Benjamin Britten heroines like Elisabeth in Gloriana and Ellen Orford in Peter Grimes. This recording shows that she was equally at home in Strauss, encompassing all of the Marschallin’s grandeur and vulnerability. The supporting cast is very good, with particular kudos to Constance Shacklock as Octavian. Rudolf Kempe leads the performance with lyricism and finesse. The sound is fair, and I should warn you that there are occasional announcements by the stage manager.
