Teresa Zylis-Gara offers a compelling case for casting a soprano as Octavian—her distinctive vocal color brings both youth and richness to the role. Elisabeth Grümmer lends the Marschallin a sense of poise and restraint that feels almost Mozartian in its elegance. While the sound quality leaves something to be desired, the performance remains a captivating listen.

Enjoyable Chunks; Not Sure Cast is Correct!
This disc gives us about half of Act Two (no Presentation of the Rose though) and a good portion of Act Three (the first 20 minutes or so) and the last 19 minutes (the tape fades out after the lovers have finished their duet). There is nothing from Act One.Teresa Zylis-Gara is listed as Oktavian, but I don't think it is she. The singer here is occasionally a bit squally in a way that Zylis-Gara never was. Kurt Bohme has lots of fun as Ochs (he shouts a lot of the role.) Liselotte Hammes is a lovely Sophie. Elisabeth Grummer is a majestic Marshalling, singing with poise and beauty. Wilhelm Schüchter has his hands full with a mostly competent supporting cast and orchestra.The voices are slightly recessed, but audible over the noisy orchestra. For fans of the singers.
