I have always been mystified by the fact that Daphne has played the ugly stepchild to Salome and Elektra.  Although it may not be at the same level as those two (especially where the libretto is concerned) there is so much stunning music and very few lags.   The transformation music at the end may be some of Strauss' most beautiful.  Ingrid Bjoner heads the cast and is nearly ideal.  Her voice is silvery and embodies the purity of the character coupled with an opulence which lends itself very well to Strauss' trademark soaring melodies.  The sound is excellent.

BONUS:
Ingrid Bjoner sings arias from Elektra and Ariadne auf Naxos
