Mario del Monaco's oversized voice and personality made him one of the ideal Samsons and what he may lack in subtlety he makes up for in shear visceral excitement. Just hearing his final b-flat during the last moments of the opera, leaves very little doubt that this man had the force to topple the entire temple. Nell Rankin is his Dalila and is appropriately lush. The sound is just fair.
