Rossini: Il Turco in Italia - Ratti, Rossi-Lemeni, Stabile, Luise; De Fabritiis. Paris, 1957
Listen to a Sample:
It is surprising why Il Turco in Italia has taken a back seat to La Cenerentola, Il Barbiere di Siviglia and L'Italiana in Algeri. It has all the same charm, energy and exotic Arabian flare as the others and is a great vehicle for a fire-cracker soprano, just like Eugenia Ratti. Ratti is a delight as Donna Fiorilla. Her coloratura is all the more remarkable because the size of the voice is actually quite impressive. As Selimo, Nicola Rossi-Lemeni strikes a good balance between oafish and dignified. The sound is excellent.
