It is surprising why Il Turco in Italia has taken a back seat to La Cenerentola, Il Barbiere di Siviglia and L'Italiana in Algeri. It has all the same charm, energy and exotic Arabian flair as the others and is a great vehicle for a firecracker soprano, just like Eugenia Ratti. Ratti is a delight as Donna Fiorilla. Her coloratura is all the more remarkable because the size of the voice is actually quite impressive. As Selim, Nicola Rossi-Lemeni strikes a good balance between oafish and dignified.
