Pros:
- This performance, in excellent stereo sound, could easily stand up to some of the greatest performances of Salome I have heard.
- Leonie Rysanek is in marvelous voice and sings with utter commitment and remarkable finesse.
- The supporting cast is excellent, including the over-the-top Herodias of Astrid Varnay, the frenetic Herod of Hans Hopf.
- The playing of the Bavarian State Opera orchestra is particularly fine, thanks to the leadership of Rudolf Kempe who finds specific intention in even the most minute detail.
