A piano recital featuring arias and duets from opera is something of a rarity today, with singers tending to remain within the Lieder and art song repertoire. Yet it proves an excellent vehicle for highlighting the more intimate aspects of these works, allowing the performance to focus on artistic expression rather than the demands of projecting over an orchestra.

Marisa Galvany is the star of the evening, shining across the wide array of styles presented in the program. Her voice displays a miraculous ability to combine power, agility, and thrilling high notes. Giuseppe Campora contributes admirable vocalism to his selections, supporting Galvany without necessarily matching her brilliance.
