Compilation: Ramón Vinay - Arias from Carmen, Samson, Holländer, Otello, Tosca & Tristan
Listen to a Sample:
There have been many women who have had successful careers pivoting between the soprano and mezzo fachs, but very few men have been able to pull this off, the one notable exception being Ramón Vinay. Unfortunately, it is difficult to come across recordings of Vinay singing baritone roles which is why I always pounce on them when they come my way. This compilation features equal parts of Vinay in the tenor and baritone rep including baritone scenes from Der fliegende Holländer, Carmen, Tosca and Otello and tenor scenes from Samson et Dalila, Die Walküre, Tristan und Isolde, and Otello. Whether or not you believe this artist skewed more towards tenor or baritone, it is undeniable that it was a spectacular instrument.
