Puccini: Turandot - Tinsley, Martí, Huang; Hetu. Edmonton, 1974

$8.95

Description:

The role of Turandot is traditionally a showcase for dramatic sopranos capable of delivering powerful high notes, and Pauline Tinsley certainly excels in this regard. However, she transcends mere vocal fireworks with her profound musicianship and deep commitment to the text, creating a portrayal that stands out among others. Her performance in the opening of "In questa reggia," where she describes her ancestor Lo-u-ling, is captivating, matched only by her commanding use of voice in the second half. Bernabé Martí brings a blend of vocal heft and lyricism to the role of Caláf, though his performance lacks some of the refinement that could have further elevated his portrayal. Despite these minor points, this performance remains compelling, and no significant flaws detract from its overall impact.
