This recording of Turandot harkens back to the era in which Covent Garden would present all of their operas in English. The superb cast is headed by Amy Shuard who brings both bone-chilling intensity along with vocal warmth which one rarely hears in this role. Hans Kaart, a tenor who was unknown to me, is outstanding as Calaf and Marie Collier brings her signature pathos to the role of Liù. The sound is fair to good
