I had this performance years ago on the Myto label and had forgotten how good it is. All three principals are at the top of their game, Erede's leadership is superb, and so is the sound.Marton is a very jealous, angry Tosca who snarls "Assassino!" so vociferously at Scarpia I'm surprised he didn't drop dead right then, forget the knife she employs later on. She sings a splendid "Vissi d'arte" and then thrills us with her "Io quella lama" in Act Three from top C to a cavernous low C two octaves down. Aragall justifies his reputation of having one of the most beautiful tenor voices in the world at this time and Paskalis is a suave, yet ferocious Scarpia. The supporting cast includes Dimiter Uzunov as Spoletta and Manfred Jungwirth as the Sacristan. As mentioned earlier, the sound is superb.I would've preferred the disc break to come after Act One so that Act Two would not be interrupted, but then we wouldn't get the Don Carlos duet as a bonus (and it's a true bonus).All Tosca lovers and/or fans of the singers should have this.
