Pros:

  • "Temperament" is a word often used when describing great Toscas, and Eva Marton has it in spades. Dramatically she holds back absolutely nothing and yet is still able to scale back her voice to achieve ravishing moments of sheer vocal beauty.
  • Jaume Aragall brings sweetness and bravado to the role of Cavaradossi,.
  • The Vienna State Opera was notorious in the 1970s for throwing standard repertory operas together with little to no rehearsal. However, it seems that somehow Alberto Erede was able to negotiate some extra time which he put to very good use, eliciting some exquisite details from the orchestra.
  • The sound is excellent.

Cons:

  • None to mention.

BONUS:
Éva Marton and Jaume Aragall sing "Io vengo a domandar" from Don Carlo
