Listen to a Sample:
This recording of Tosca joins two great performers, albeit of different eras, together for a unique performance. Giuseppe Di Stefano was trying to make a comeback in the mid-seventies. Sadly the voice was not up to the demands Puccini puts on the voice. Present still, however, is his signature commitment to the drama and classic Italianate style and although some of the climaxes may be beyond his capabilities he shows that he still has something to bring to the table. Montserrat Caballé on the other hand was at the height of her powers and delivers on all marks. Both the stentorian and the delicate are perfectly executed and she seems all the more inspired by her great colleague. The sound is excellent.
