Marie Collier and Tito Gobbi on paper may seem like an odd pair but actually their voices and sensibilities prove to be very well matched in this recording of Il Tabarro.  Both artists had the kind of commitment to the drama that truly differentiates a run-of-the-mill night at the opera from the transforming experiences that feed all of our addictions to this art form.  Charles Craig is an excellent Luigi.  His burnished tone is perfect for the role and his voice is seemingly tireless in this notoriously tiring part.  The sound is very good.
