This recording captures the great Antonietta Stella as Tosca in glorious sound. By 1965, her voice remained refulgent, now displaying a darker hue than in the 1950s. She is joined by the remarkable, yet under-recorded Louis Quilico, whose Scarpia strikes an excellent balance between aristocrat and sociopath. Renato Cioni delivers a sturdy and elegant Cavaradossi, rounding out a compelling cast.
