This is a great Manon. Tucker is strong and Caballe is Caballe. The sound is very fine. I enjoyed this live performance from B. A.

Sometimes the Pirate Gods are with us and the sound of a recording is as good as the performance. That's the case here. The sound is very clear and on pitch; everything can be clearly heard. The performance is as wonderful as Andy describes it above. Caballe not only sings like an angel with beautiful tone and ringing high notes, but is as dramatically involved as one could wish. I have no criticism of her. Tucker's voice was beginning to sound a little muscular by 1966, but he's still a fine singer who knows his role inside and out. He was sparing with his top C's; here he joins Caballe on a great C in the last act.Mastromei is a terrific Lescaut. Whatever happened to him? The rest of the cast is also excellent, especially Carmen Burello as the Musician and Nino Falzetti as the Dancing Master. Bartoletti conducts a thrilling, well-paced performance.If you're a Puccini fan or love these singers, you must get this.

A polished, scintillating performance, with Caballé’s brilliance matched by Tucker’s dramatic verve. As compelling a rendition of this work as I can imagine. Very good sound. One product defect: all tracks are mislabeled “Shuard Taddei,” apparently referring to the 1964 Teatro Colon “Macbeth” also in the Opera Depot catalog.
