What happened to the notion of a large-voice Butterfly? Do impressarios think that the quality of the voice has to sound like a teenage girl for thir role? If so I refer them to this performance with Antonietta Stella. The color of her voice is not youthful per se, but she colors the words and shapes her voice to create a believable and moving geisha girl. Flaviano Labò executes his role admirably much to the audience’s appreciation. Giuseppe Taddei is icing on the cake.
