Magda Olivero demonstrates why she was such a commanding presence on stage in this performance of Il Tabarro. As Giorgetta, she portrays a woman who is both fragile and full of suppressed emotions. Her scene with Michele, where they mourn the loss of their child, is especially poignant and deeply affecting.
Giorgio Fioravanti delivers a solid performance as Michele, and Aldo Bottion is equally sturdy as Luigi. However, the night undeniably belongs to Olivero. The sound is good.
