Prokofiev: War and Peace (In Italian) - Carteri, Corelli, Bastianini, Tajo, Picchi; Rodzinsky. Firenze, 1953
$8.95
Description:
The 1950s and 60s in Italy were marked by a surge of artistic exploration, most famously giving rise to the bel canto renaissance. However, less attention is given to the era’s embrace of operas by composers from across Europe, many of which saw their Italian premieres decades before appearing at major venues like the Metropolitan Opera.
This performance of Prokofiev's War and Peace features an exceptional cast of some of the finest singers of the time—or any time—including Franco Corelli, Rosanna Carteri, Ettore Bastianini, Italo Tajo, and Mirto Picchi. Each delivers outstanding performances, with Corelli standing out in particular. Adding to the recording’s significance is the fact that it captures Corelli early in his career, eight years before his Metropolitan Opera debut. The sound is very good.
