Although almost forgotten today, La Cecchina was an enormous success when it was premiered in 1760. This performance, from an Italian telecast in 1969, is an anachronism not only for the fact that revivals of early classical works were still pretty rare, but also for the sensitivity to the period. Musicologists out there will be very impressed by the period performance practice that in my opinion is right up there with the specialists of today. Mirella Freni is her usual charming self in the title role and is joined by Sesto Bruscantini, Rolando Panerai and Werner Hollweg. The sound is very good.
