In 1976, the role of Otello was new to Placido Domingo.  We find him in this performance in very fresh voice.  Some of the high notes that plagued him in later years get the better of him here but he makes up for it in deep commitment and fiery temperament.  He is matched in fiery temperament from Georg Solti in the pit.  Solti had a way of making brass sections sound as if they had ten times as many players than they did.  Margaret Price is perfect as Desdemona.  Her voice has both the ethereal purity and the heft that one wants.   I don't think that there are many sopranos who can match her in beauty.  Although Gabriel Bacquier may not have had the most glamorous voice, he makes up for is with his profound resources as a singing actor.  The sound is very good.
