This studio broadcast performance of Le nozze di Figaro, recorded for Italian radio, brings together a cast that balances established artists with emerging voices. Teresa Stratas, as Susanna, offers a portrayal that combines the lightness associated with a soubrette soprano with a perceptive grasp of character, lending the role both charm and insight. Sena Jurinac presents a poised and dignified Countess, her singing marked by control and assurance, even if “Dove sono” reveals occasional signs of vocal strain, which her technique largely mitigates.

Teresa Berganza is well suited to Cherubino, her warmly colored mezzo lending itself to both the impetuous energy of “Non so più” and the more reflective lyricism of “Voi che sapete.” Sesto Bruscantini brings a lively presence to Figaro, capturing both the character’s wit and grounded nature with ease. By contrast, Mario Petri’s Count does not quite match the vocal distinction of his colleagues, leaving the central antagonist somewhat less defined within the ensemble.
