A very good casting around the amazing Montserrat Caballé in Donna Anna !!!! Mozart suits her very well !!!!! She is a very very good Donna Anna. Thanks for that recording.

Everyone performs professionally in this performance, but there are reasons this recording, despite having Caballe's only extant Donna Anna, has had limited circulation. To begin with, Caballe is a good, but not yet great, Anna. She has no trouble with the music and sprinkles some of her legendary pianissimi on the role. Her habit of leaving out consonants and just singing vowels is also in evidence, particularly in ensembles. "Non mi dir" is, naturally, the highlight of her performance, but she also sings the final duet with Ottavio very beautifully. Gimenez has a fine voice and sings a strong Ottavio. Both of his arias go very well. Ghiuselev is good, but makes a number of textual and musical errors - was this his first time out in the role? He also has a habit of inserting stagy laughs. Ganzarolli is an excellent Leporello with great diction. Liebmann and Camacho are singers new to me, but they both deliver solid performances. Camacho is a larger voiced Zerlina than we're used to hearing. Guadagno tries to lead a solid performance, but his singers betray their lack of rehearsal more than a few times, especially in the second act. He includes "Mi tradi" for Elvira.The sound is listenable. Unfortunately, there's a bad patch during the graveyard scene where a burst of static obscures the music completely. This happens intermittently during the rest of the opera and during Anna and Ottavio's final duet. For Caballe completists.
