Teresa Stich-Randall seems to be one of the sopranos that people either love or hate. Perhaps she wasn't the most consistent singer, however there are few singers who sing this repertoire and give as much voice as she does. She was truly a dramatic coloratura. "Matern aller Arten" is very exciting particularly because it doesn't necessarily sound like it is easy for her. But who wants easy singing in an aria like that? You want élan. Less controversial in the world of opera is Nicolai Gedda about whom it is almost impossible to hear a bad word, especially in his home turf of Mozart. This particular role gives him many opportunities to shine which he does. Michel Séneéhal also excels as Pedrillo. His voice is not the prettiest but he is very charming. The sound is very good.
