Così fan tutte

This performance of Così fan tutte assembles a remarkable cast of exceptional singers, yet the true star remains Mozart's opera itself. The production immerses the audience in the work's joyful cynicism, with arias seamlessly integrated into the drama, avoiding the pitfalls of becoming mere showpieces. A young Nicolai Gedda stands out, delivering opulent vocals even during the most challenging passages. While Teresa Stich-Randall's voice may not appeal to all tastes, her ability to craft a stunning Mozartian line is undeniable.

Wonderful 1955 Performance

This is a wonderful Aix-en Provence performance of Cosi fan Tutte. It is a companion to Aix performances that Hans Rosbaud and most of this ensemble performed in the mid 50's. I love TSR and obtain as many of her performance as I can find. I have her singing with Rosbaud in Don Giovanni and Figaro from Aix and she does not disappoint here: she is wonderful. It helps that the rest of the cast is also very charming-Gedda as Ferrando, Merriman as Dorabella and Streich as Despina. The sound is excellent-voices clear and up front (the way I like them). Rosbaud is a fine conductor who moves this opera at a fine pace. Don't be surprised to hear the piano accompany the recits as it is 1955. This is a very enjoyable Cosi and I highly recommend it to all Cosi fans. Thanks to Opera Depot for finding this gem.
