This performance of Così fan tutte shines with the superb Valerie Masterson as Fiordiligi. Masterson's flexible and elegant soprano navigates the role's demanding passages with grace and precision. She is joined by a young Francisco Araiza as Ferrando, whose virile and expressive singing is a rare and refreshing treat in Mozart tenor roles. It is a pity he later moved away from the Mozart repertoire in favor of more dramatic works.

Gabriel Bacquier brings charm and wit to the role of Don Alfonso, anchoring the ensemble with his seasoned artistry. Under the baton of Sir Charles Mackerras, the performance is brisk, vibrant, and full of life, with the singers incorporating some tasteful and well-executed embellishments that enhance the music’s elegance.
