Così fan tutte

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791)

DESCRIPTION

This performance recalls a time when larger-voiced singers were regularly cast in Mozart, a tradition realized here with both conviction and stylistic sensitivity. The cast embraces this aesthetic with discernment, channeling their vocal resources toward the style’s essential intimacy and refinement, while also seizing opportunities to let their voices resound with full impact. Under the baton of Vittorio Gui, the singers exhibit a striking command of dynamic nuance, particularly in the ensembles, where the unified articulation evokes the discipline of elite choral ensembles.

Sena Jurinac offers a compelling Fiordiligi, combining charm with vocal allure. She delivers “Come scoglio” with assuredness and brings lyrical warmth to the long-breathed phrases of “Per pietà.” Richard Lewis proves a sympathetic partner, distinguished by his customary elegance and a voice of considerable weight. Though Sesto Bruscantini would later gain distinction as Don Alfonso, his early portrayal here already conveys magnetism and vocal charisma.
