$5.95

Manon – Excerpts

Jules Massenet (1842 - 1912)

DESCRIPTION

In this 1952 recording, Victoria de los Ángeles, still in the early stages of her career, already demonstrates the qualities that would make her one of the most captivating sopranos of her generation. Despite her youth, there is a striking maturity in her phrasing and a natural dramatic instinct that brings Manon vividly to life. Her voice, radiant and impeccably controlled, soars with both lyrical tenderness and emotional weight in these excerpts from Acts III and IV.

She is joined by Eugene Conley, whose elegant tenor adds a persuasive blend of ardor and refinement to Des Grieux. His interpretation strikes a balance between impetuous passion and poised lyricism, making for a compelling counterpart to de los Ángeles.
