Troyanos n’est pas très audible dans ce rôle de soprano. Ohanesian est vériste au mauvais sens du terme Ochman fiévreux et lyrique emporte tout.

Possibly, the only reason to have this is to hear Tatiana Troyanos in what i suspect is her debut Santuzza. She offers glimmers of the magic to come two years later in San Francisco. Ochman as Turiddu sings adequately if not admirably at times with his sweet, light tenor. And a well-sung Mama Lucia whoever she is.

Tatiana Troyanos learned much of her craft from working steadily in Germany for a number of years before returning to America. This performance was recorded several her several years before her Met debut, but after she had already started to become well-known in Europe. She is an earthy, sultry Santuzza, her uniquely colored voice throbbing with emotion, fully committed to the drama and character. She would develop her interpretation of the role as she became more mature as a singer and actress, especially at the Met in 1978 when she performed the role with Domingo on the Met telecast. She leaves out the final written top C here, a note she would include later on.Perhaps Ochman was a little out of his fach as Turiddu, but he sings very handsomely. He and Troyanos make an incendiary couple. David Ohanesian's rather rough baritone suits Alfio well. The Lola and Mama Lucia are excellent (too bad we're not told who they are). Patane knows how this opera is supposed to go and leads a strong performance. What a pity about ten minutes is missing from the master tape. I would love to hear what Ochman and Ohanesian did with their confrontation scene.This is derived from an in-house tape, but the voices are clearly heard over the orchestra.

Not good. Patane's conducting was surprisingly poor especially for a conductor who has done wonderful work in the past - a real opera veteran.Troyanos was disappointing. And Ochman, whose performances in Russian operas have always been more than superb, was awful in this part. It was not his fach at all. Ohanesian was only barely adequate. Also, the performance being incomplete was a disapointment.
