Unless you are particularly curious about Magda Olivero’s portrayal of Santuzza, this recording may be one to skip. The sound is distant and fuzzy, and the first two minutes are missing. That said, Olivero delivers as expected, infusing Santuzza with the same authentic Italian pathos that made her such a compelling Fedora and Adriana Lecouvreur. The recording is also notable for featuring Bianca Berina as Lola.
