Mascagni: Cavalleria Rusticana - G. Jones, Cossutta, Ron. Lewis, Minton, Bainbridge; Balkwill. London, 1965

Another rare recording of an early Gwyneth Jones performance.   She was still in her twenties when she sang this performance.  That she was able to sing this part at such a young age is remarkable.  What is even more outstanding is how mature she already was as an artist.  Generally youngsters do not sing with the kind of abandon that she brings to this part.   At the same time she is able to spin gorgeous line reminding us that verissmo was born out of bel canto.  She is joined by Carlo Cossutta as Turridu.  The sound is fair
