I heard Dvorakova as Brünnhilde in my second Ring Cycle at Covent Garden in 1968. I was brought up on the Solti recording with Nilsson and initially was disappointed in comparison, as Dvorakova was a very mezzo orientated heroine lacking the sheer power and steely top notes of the Swede.She also had the habit of sliding into notes.She was a very girlish warrior maid and in comparison with what came after, die Heilige Gwyneth excepted, she would have a wider career.She can be seen as Venus in the DVD video of the Berliner Staatsoper Tannhäuser of 1982.Perhaps we can have some recordings of her Czech contemporary Nadezda Kniplova?
