Lehar: Die lustige Witwe (In French) - Stich-Randall, Henneveux, Jacquin, Legay; Sibert. Paris, 1970
$8.95
Description:
This recording of The Merry Widow captures Teresa Stich-Randall toward the end of her career, but her artistry remains intact. Fortunately, the role of Hanna Glawari—here referred to as Missia Palmieri in this French-language version—is forgiving of time’s passage, and Stich-Randall proves a regal and emotionally compelling presence in Lehár’s wistful comedy. Her phrasing and poise lend the character grace and charm, even if the voice shows some signs of wear.
Jean Guy Henneveux brings a light touch to Danilo, evoking both the charm and modest vocalism of a Maurice Chevalier. The rest of the cast supports the leads ably, contributing to a cohesive and elegant interpretation of the operetta.
