Handel: Giulio Cesare - Christoff, Corelli, Barbieri, Fineschi, Petri; Gavazzeni. Roma, 1955
Listen to a Sample:
Having come of age during the period performance revolution of the 1980s, I was exposed to a good deal of Handel and I have to make a terrible confession. I have never been truly won over by Handel operas. However, I think that if I had been exposed to Handel by singers like Boris Christoff and Franco Corelli it may have been a different story. Purists may bristle at the idea of this recording, but lovers of great singing will marvel at the power that Handel's music has in the right hands. The sound is only fair and the performance was reorganized in an odd way.
