Any Gwyneth Jones fan will treasure this rare document of the great Welsh soprano. It is a rare glimpse into her earlier days as a mezzo-soprano. It starts with a student recital she did in 1958. She sings arias from Carmen, the Messiah and Orfeo ed Euridice. Her voice is youthful and somewhat light and her deep commitment to the interpretation is well beyond her years. The highlight for me was a stirring interpretation of the beautiful folksong "Blow the Wind Southerly" sung here a cappella. Also included on this compilation are excerpts of her singing Hänsel und Gretel and two Mozart concert arias.
