Drama and musicality.
Despite a little sound distortion particularly towards the end of Act 2, there is so much to enjoy in this performance. Shirley Verrett is a first class , heroic yet human Orfeo. The flexibility and warmth of her voice is ideal for the part. Her performance is matched by Elizabeth Vaughan's Euridice. She brings the character to life with a full toned , more dramatic voice than is often encountered in this role. The result is that the struggle between Orfeo and Euridice , she pleading for him to look at her and he trying to avoid doing so , becomes gripping storytelling.Anne Pashley makes a charming Amor.A performance of depth and musicality led by Sir Charles Mackerras. The orchestra and chorus of the Royal Opera make a fine contribution .

Pour Verrett et Mackerras
Mackerras réussit toujours particulièrement Gluck. Verrett est sublime (nous le savions déjà). A noter : la date exacte est le 3 juin.
