Wagner: Der fliegende Holländer - Zeani, Boyer, Casellato-Lamberti, Rossi-Lemeni, di Stasio; Cristoffoli. Roma, 1970

I am always interested in hearing performances of Wagner in Italian.   They lend the music a completely different quality and highlight Wagner's Italian influences (He loved Bellini and Rossini.)  Aside from the oddity factor this is a very good performance due to the most part to Virginia Zeani.   Her aria is full-throttle with wonderful chest tones.  She is joined by her husband, Nicola Rossi-Lemeni, as Daland.  The sound is good although there is some occasional distortion at climaxes.
