How lovely to come across this historic recording. However it was a live broadcast (not recorded) for which the players received a single fee. Therefore, I believe this was recorded illegally. Piracy? How can you also put a copyright notice on it? That said, brought back memories for my wife and I who were playing on this.

Yvonne Kenny magnificent in a Belcanto Role, who has maybe never had such a perfect rendition

This is a wonderful opera that lay unperformed for years until this Opera Rara performance. It's terrific--the sound is not great, but certainly listenable--but the singers and conductor have a vitality that is unmatched by the more recent CD from Opera Rara with Renee Fleming, which of course has terrific sound and which I would suggest is worth getting in conjunction with this one. A more recent production from Florence, with Jessica Pratt, is very exciting but unfortunately reverts to what was supposedly Donizetti's very first production, which ends very abruptly without a final soprano aria. It's very weird to hear--and very unsatisfying. So all in all, even with less than stellar sound, this early Opera Rara recording is one I'd strongly suggest should be the first choice.

I know this has a vinyl release, I'm curious to hear it now. This mp3 sounds like a victim of poor transfer rather than poor original, but I could be wrong. The sample given above seems better quality than the CD/mp3 I received ? Or was it filtered? Mine has a constant tinny/compressed wow and flutter and intermittent static(the static is more probably in the original recording, but the tinny stuff...?).Aside from that, an excellent performance. Makes me want to seek out the original vinyl.
