Bounty of riches
This is magnificent, as well as a very generous program by Rysanek and King, who are in their glory. She gives her best extant performance of "Suicidio!" and he proves equally adept in German and Italian opera. Conductor Kurt Eichorn throws in various orchestral extras, including the rarely heard Waltz Suite from Strauss' "Intermezzo." The stereo sound is beyond praise. Run, do not walk to get this.

Brilliant Concert in excellent sound
It is hard to believe that singers can reach this this level of technical perfection in a live performance. KIng is a revelation in verismo repertoire, which I had never heard before. Cavaradossi? KIng? You better believe it. Slight intonation glitches doesn't detract from Rysanek's fully determined performance. It is a generous recital with many beautiful things in it, and it makes a very satisfying listen.

Rysanek and King were both nearing 50 by the time of this concert but their luminous voices were undeminished. To quibble: the Tosca excerpts have King sounding more like Sigmund than Cavaradossi, his E Luvevan Le Stelle is a Wagnerian primeval cry than the sad sexual fantasy that is. The bronze voice nonetheless rings out most impressively. Rysanek makes a moving Tosca, singing with glorious tone and long phrases. (Although she disappointingly cuts the final phrases of Vissi D'Arte short robbing them of much of the poignancy. She is heard to better advantage in this in the 1953 German version, available from Opera Depot)The second disc devoted to Wagner is superb.The concert is interspersed with orchestral offerings from opera, making this altogether a most enjoyable concert.The sound is excellent.
